| | | | | | | | OBJECTIVE
To secure City Council authorization to purchase one (1) new Vactor sewer cleaning truck from Hakker Equipment Co. through the Sourcewell Cooperative Purchasing competitive bid program, Contract #101221-VTR. |
| | | | | | | | BACKGROUND
The Public Works Department has one (1) Vactor sewer cleaning truck that currently meets the City’s guidelines for replacement and was approved through Fiscal Year 2023/24 budget process. This vehicle is a 2001 Sterling Vactor with 129,602 miles, VIN # 2FZAAWAK11AJ31406 and has a diesel engine and is being replaced with a cleaner burning compressed natural gas (CNG) engine with the new unit. Experience has shown that the City’s buying power is enhanced through joining with other public agencies to purchase fleet vehicles and equipment. |
| | | | | | | | DISCUSSION
Sourcewell nationally solicits, evaluates and awards contracts through a competitive bid process. As a member of Sourcewell, the City is able to utilize bid awards for equipment purchases. Staff recommends piggybacking on the results of a recent Sourcewell competitive bid program, Contract #101211-VTR. The results deemed Hakker Equipment Co. as the lowest responsive bid.

| | | | | | | | FINANCIAL IMPACT
There is no impact to the General Fund. The replacement cost of $638,015.58 is budgeted in and will be funded by the Fleet internal service fund. The surplus equipment will be sold at public auction, and proceeds, if any will be returned to the Fleet fund. |
| | | | | | | | RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council:
- Authorize the Finance Director to issue a purchase order in the amount of $638,015.58 to Hakker Equipment Co. for the purchase of one (1) new Vactor sewer cleaning truck.
