| | | | | | | | OBJECTIVE
Secure City Council approval of a purchase order with Siemens Industries Inc. (Siemens) for Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system repair at the City's GEM Theater. |
| | | | | | | | BACKGROUND
The Public Works Department Facilities Division is responsible for maintenance of city buildings. The GEM Theater's existing Siemens HVAC control system is failing and unreliable. Moreover, problems with this outdated system are further complicated by a lack of support and repair parts availability. |
| | | | | | | | DISCUSSION
Currently, multi-zone buildings automation HVAC controls for the majority of city buildings, including the GEM Theater, are manufactured by Siemens. Consequently, tools, parts and software necessary to make repairs are proprietary and can only be provided by Siemens. Thus making Siemens a sole source vendor. |
| | | | | | | | FINANCIAL IMPACT
The estimated cost for the replacement of the HVAC system at the City's GEM Theater is $54,000. The needed funding is included in the existing Building Maintenance operating budget, therefore, no additional appropriation is necessary. |
| | | | | | | | RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that City Council:
- Approve the agreement with Siemens in the amount of $54,000 to Siemens Industries, Inc. for the repair of the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning control system at the GEM Theater; and
- Authorize the City Manager to sign the agreement on behalf of the City.
