The City was awarded a CALFIRE grant to complete an Urban Forest Management Plan; Tree Ordinance update; canopy cover assessment, and plant 363 trees along with Greenhouse Gas calculations on the Orange County Transportation Authority, former Pacific Electric railroad right-of-way. The specific planting area is now known as the Medal of Honor Bike and Pedestrian Trail located between Brookhurst Street to Nelson Street. Community and Economic Development Department has now completed project construction.

On August 11, 2020, the City entered into a contract with Kato Landscape, Inc., a landscape contractor to complete the landscape project. The project involved installing an irrigation system, planting 363 trees, and funding two-years of landscape maintenance along the Medal of Honor Bike and Pedestrian Trail.

The contractor, Kato Landscape, Inc., has completed the improvements in accordance with the plans, specifications, and other contract documents.

It is recommended that the City Council:

• Accept Project No. 176-01, Bicycle and Pedestrian Trail Landscape and Irrigation Project along the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) right-of-way from Brookhurst Street to Nelson Street as complete; 

• Authorize the City Manager to execute the Notice of Completion of Public Improvement and Work; and

• Authorize the Finance Director to release the retention payment when appropriate to do so.
