Authorize the issuance of a Purchase Order to John Deere Construction Retail Sales for the purchase of one backhoe. (Cost:  $101,063.84) (Action Item)

OBJECTIVE

To secure City Council authorization to purchase one (1) new backhoe from John Deere Construction Retail Sales.

BACKGROUND

The Public Works Department Water Division is adding one (1) new backhoe to its fleet of equipment. This addition was approved through the FY-15/16 budget process.  Experience has shown the the City's buying power is enhanced through joining with other public agencies to purchase fleet vehicles and equipment.

DISCUSSION

The National Joint Powers Alliance (NJPA) nationally solicits, evaluates and awards contracts through a competitive bid process.  As a member of NJPA, the City is able to utilize NJPA bid awards for equipment purchases.  Staff recommends piggybacking on the results of the NJPA competitive bid program, Contract #032515-JDC.  The results deemed John Deere Construction Retail Sales as the lowest responsive bid.

 

                   John Deere Construction Retail Sales     $101,064.84*

 

 * This price includes all applicable tax and destination charges.

FINANCIAL IMPACT

The financial impact is $101,063.84 to the Water Operations Fund.

RECOMMENDATION

It is recommended that the City Council:

 

  • Authorize the Finance Director to issue a purchase order in the amount of $101,063.84 to John Deere Construction Retail Sales for the purchase of one (1) new backhoe.
