| Subject: | Consideration of a dumpster days/community clean-up program in each City Council district in coordination with Republic Services as requested by the City Council. (Action Item) | Date: | 7/13/2021 |
|
| | | | | | | | OBJECTIVE
For the City Council to consider implementing a dumpster days/community clean-up program in each City Council district in coordination with Republic Services. |
| | | | | | | | BACKGROUND
At the June 28, 2021, City Council Meeting, Mayor Pro Tem Kim Nguyen proposed implementing a dumpster days/community clean-up program in each City Council district in partnership with Republic Services. Following discussion, the City Council directed staff to coordinate with Republic Services to develop an implementation plan for Council consideration at the July 13, 2021 meeting. |
| | | | | | | | DISCUSSION
In collaboration with Republic Services the following general implementation plan has been developed:
- Republic Services will support the City in implementing a dumpster days/community clean-up program in each City Council district.
- The program will include six (6) special trash clean-up events that will be implemented over a series of weekends, between August and December 2021.
- Two large roll-off waste containers will be provided for each clean-up event (see attached photo).
- The dates and times will be flexible, based on the needs of each district, but will generally occur on Saturday between the hours of 8 am to 11 am or until the containers are full.
- Disposal will be limited to non-hazardous waste and bulky items.
- Electronic and green waste will be excluded.
- Each event will be open to all Garden Grove residents.
- Council Members can coordinate with staff regarding suggested dates, times, and locations.
- Clean-up events can be paired with additional community outreach efforts, based on available staff and resources.
|
| | | | | | | | FINANCIAL IMPACT
Republic Services has agreed to sponsor the full cost of the program; therefore, there is no cost to the City, aside from staff support. |
| | | | | | | | RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council:
- Provide direction to staff regarding implementation of the proposed dumpster days/community clean-up program.
