To transmit a letter from the Sister City Association of Garden Grove requesting co-sponsorship of the 6th annual Strawberry Stomp 5K on Saturday, May 25, 2019. |
| | | | | | | | BACKGROUND
The Sister City Association of Garden Grove (Association) is a local non-profit organization that is in good standing with the Internal Revenue Service and has been serving the Garden Grove community since 1989. They are currently working with the Secretary of State to come current with the State, as they are with the Federal Government. Each year, the Association sends Garden Grove youth to our sister city, Anyang, South Korea, and also hosts their youth as part of their student exchange program. All proceeds from their fundraising efforts go directly toward sending students overseas and hosting the incoming exchange students. |
| | | | | | | | DISCUSSION
The Association is requesting City Council approval for co-sponsorship of the 6th annual Strawberry Stomp 5K on Saturday, May 25, 2019. |
| | | | | | | | FINANCIAL IMPACT
Co-sponsorship for the 6th annual Strawberry Stomp 5K will have an impact to the City's General Fund. The cost to provide Police, Fire and Public Works staff required to support this event is approximately $12,642. The Association has committed to reimburse the City a total amount of $1,000 toward the City's costs, therefore the impact is reduced to an approximate amount of $11,642. The Association is striving to make this event self-sufficient and with continued success they hope to contribute a larger amount each year until they are able to pay the full amount for City support. |

It is recommended that the City Council:
- Consider the Sister City Association of Garden Grove request for co-sponsorship of their 6th annual Strawberry Stomp 5K on Saturday, May 25, 2019.
