Staff received a request from the Emperor Quang Trung Statue Committee to rename Business Center Parkway to Nguyen Hue Avenue from Euclid Street to Corporate Drive, which, is the entire length of Business Center Parkway.  A statue of the Emperor is currently being constructed at the northwest corner of Euclid Street and Business Center Parkway. However, the Planning Commission modified the requested street name from Nguyen Hue Avenue to Emperor Quang Trung.

The subject area is approximately 350' long and there are currently no addresses on Business Center Parkway.  Staff has notified all properties within 300 feet of the proposed street name change.

Government Code section 34091.1 requires a resolution of the City Council to change the name of a City Street.  Before the City Council adopts the Resolution, section 11.28.020 of the Garden Grove Municipal Code requires that the Planning Commission hold a Public Hearing and make a recommendation to the City City Council.

The Planning Commission, adopted Resolution 5891-17 by a 7-0 vote at their meeting on August 3rd, 2017, and recommended approval by the City Council for the street name change. 

There is no impact to the General Fund. The cost to replace the street name signs is estimated to be approximately $1000 and all costs for the signs and installation will be paid for by the Quang Trung Statue Committee.

It is recommended that the City Council:

• Consider the request to change the street name Business Center Parkway to Emperor Quang Trung from Euclid Street to Corporate Drive.

• Consider adoption of the attached Resolution approving the street name change.
