| | | | | | | | OBJECTIVE
To gain City Council approval for the appropriation and use of the City’s Fiscal Year 2016-2017 allocation of $43,000, in Proposition 69 funding allocated by the State of California. |
| | | | | | | | BACKGROUND
On January 24, 2017, the Orange County Board of Supervisors approved, by Minute Order, the allocation of $43,000 in Proposition 69 funding from the State of California to the Garden Grove Police Department toward the purchase of DNA equipment. |
| | | | | | | | DISCUSSION
The Police Department is asking the City Council to approve $43,000 in Proposition 69 funding to fund a replacement walk-in freezer. The equipment will be used to enhance DNA collection and storage capabilities in accordance with Proposition 69. |
| | | | | | | | FINANCIAL IMPACT
Proposition 69 funds are specifically for law enforcement purposes only, and their use will have no negative impact on the City’s General Fund. |
| | | | | | | | RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council:
- Approve the appropriation of $43,000 in Proposition 69 funds.
- Approve allocation of $43,000 in Fiscal Year 2016-2017 Proposition 69 funds for the purchase of a walk-in DNA freezer for the Police Department.
