Authorize the issuance of a purchase order to Wondries Fleet Group for the purchase of nine (9) new police vehicles. (Cost: $294,378.48) (Action Item)

OBJECTIVE

To secure City Council authorization to purchase nine (9) new police patrol vehicles from Wondries Fleet Group through the County of Los Angeles P.O. #18361203-1.

BACKGROUND

The Police Department has several patrol vehicles that currently meet the City’s guidelines for replacement. Experience has shown that the City’s buying power is enhanced through joining with other public agencies to purchase police fleet vehicles.

 

DISCUSSION

Efforts to obtain a quote from a local Ford dealer were unsuccessful, as there are no Ford dealers within the city limits. City staff recommends piggybacking on the results of the Los Angeles County public bidding program for police patrol vehicles. The results of this bid process deemed Wondries Fleet group as the lowest responsive bid.

FINANCIAL IMPACT

The financial impact is $294,378.48 to the Fleet Management Fund. There is no impact to the General Fund. The surplus vehicles will be sold at public auction.

RECOMMENDATION

It is recommended that City Council:

 

  • Authorize the Finance Director to issue a purchase order in the amount of $294,378.48 to Wondries Fleet Group for the purchase of nine (9) new police patrol vehicles.
